understructures is a collective body assembled in Ukraine in 2020 that functions as a temporary support structure and a platform for artists, activists, volunteers, and people in need.

at the beginning of the full-scale russian terrorist invasion of Ukraine in May 2022, understructures together with LC Queisser gallery published ‘oberih’,— a book that documents people’s experience of the ongoing war through their relationship with things that they choose as their amulets.

initially shown at Liste Art Fair in Basel in June 2022, the book was presented in Amsterdam, Berlin, Copenhagen, Dusseldorf, Los Angeles, New York, Paris, Prague, Tbilisi, Vienna, and Warsaw, reaching thousands of people. with the sales of the publication, more than 40.000 EUR have been raised & donated to the grassroots volunteer initiatives & activist organizations fighting the consequences of the war in Ukraine.

since the begginning of 2023, understructures together with Ukrainian activist and volunteer Olena Samoilenko, have been collecting & delivering direct medical aid to people in the de-occupied Southern region of Kherson. a member of our collective is currently operating at the frontline as a part of a volunteer air reconnaissance unit.
